Our Terroirs
Our terroirs, rich and diverse, beautifully unite exceptional geological characteristics (granit, marl, limestone,…), topological characteristics (most plots are on the hillside), climatic features, and optimal sunshine exposure : this forms the beneficial microclimate of the valley of Kaysersberg.
Each terroir leaves its mark in each of Domaine Weinbach’s wines, and has particular affinities with different grape varieties.
Viticulture at Domaine Weinbach lies on paying close attention to our terroirs and to nature, in order to produce the highest quality grapes: this is the only way to craft truly great wines. Our main viticultural elements are: lowering yields, labouring and working the soils to favour biodiversity and rooting of the vines, avoiding the use of herbicides, fertilisers, treatment products and chemical insecticides. Since 1990, we prefer organic methods.
Biodynamics have been used at Domaine Weinbach since 1998. First applied on only a part of our vineyards, the total surface is laboured according to these methods since 2005. Biodynamic viticulture respects life, stimulates biological activity and natural balances in our soils, and ultimately, enables our terroirs to express themselves through our grapes and magnifies their sensory characteristics.
Vines which are cultivated in accordance to these methods harmonise with their environment (laboured soil and air); they produce natural and complex fruit, therefore the wine is more authentic, and purely unique. Our wine production benefits from both the Ecocert (organic) and the Demeter (biodynamic) certifications.
